Since many Matheny students are unable to verbalize their needs, our school psychologists and behaviorists seek to understand the meaning behind behaviors. Consulting and collaborating continuously with the entire educational team and the student’s family, the Matheny School psychologists implement evidence-based behavior strategies and classroom management techniques to foster our students’ adaptation and learning.
Our program emphasizes specific behavior and intervention plans that utilize positive reinforcement to emphasize desired behaviors in various settings while allowing students to develop a sense of individuality and belonging.
Areas of focus include:
- Individual behavior strategies.
- Social skills in the classroom.
- Mindfulness in the classroom.
- Techniques for developing appropriate behavior.
The Matheny School Psychological Services team is staffed by certified school psychologists and licensed psychologists and behaviorists with special education classroom experience and/or experience working with the disabled population.
