The mission of the Matheny School is to provide an integrated educational and therapeutic experience for students with a diverse range of abilities and disabilities. We aim to be the premier learning institution, giving students opportunities to reach their highest level of academic achievement, obtain maximum independence, and transition into post-secondary functional and community-based programs.

For more than 75 years, Matheny has supported students in achieving their highest level of learning and independence through a collaborative approach that integrates traditional academics with therapeutic interventions and pre-vocational skills. Our dedicated team of special education teachers, licensed therapists, nurses, social workers, and paraprofessionals, work closely with families and local school districts to create personalized service plans. We offer small, supportive classes, individual attention, adaptive technology, and a range of extracurricular activities to enhance each student’s educational experience. The Matheny School is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education.
